DIGICEL RISING STARS STUDIO PERFORMANCES BEGINS

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

The first live studio show for Digicel Rising Stars was held Sunday June 28, 2009. It was an exhilarating hour of performances that got the judges talking and the audiences cheering. There were eight performances for this week and the next seven contestants will take to the stage next Sunday to prove they are worthy for a spot in the top ten of the Digicel Rising Stars series.

Performances
Performance wise, the show was a roller coaster with a range of good, bad and, according to Anthony Miller, “horrible” performances”. Of the eight contestants, the outstanding performances for the night came from Brown Sugar, who tackled R&B newcomer Jazmine Sullivan’s Lions, Tigers & Bears and her fantastic vocals saw her stealing the show. Equally memorable was the performance of Angelle and of the odd-pairing that is Chrissy and Winston.  As usual, there were performances on the other end of the scale, and contestants Ruth Hannah and Siren offered, what the judges thought, were bad performances.

Judges
The usual the trademark flair of each judge was definitely present on the set of the first live show; Anthony’s curt and brute honesty, Clyde’s jokes, and Nadine’s sweet motherly advice. The most interesting comment of the night came from the one and only Anthony, when he passed judgement on Siren’s performance of Beyonce’s Flaws and All. Miller said that her performance would have been better if she had “kept your mouth shut and walked around”. He finished the wallop of a comment with “it really became unpleasant when you started to screech”.

Clyde offered the night’s sweetest comment, after being bowled over by Brown Sugar’s performance. He said “I think that you should come with a warning for diabetics, that was sweet”, to which the audience responded with roaring applause.

AIR JAMAICA ON BOARD WITH SUMFEST 09

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

In anticipation of high traffic summer activities such as the internationally acclaimed Reggae Sumfest festival in Montego Bay, event sponsor Air Jamaica, has made changes to its regular flight schedule, including the re-introduction of its ‘Night Bird’ service.

“We have added one more flight to Fort Lauderdale making it five daily flights to Fort Lauderdale, and that started on June 25. This is an added advantage for patrons of Reggae Sumfest,” said Air Jamaica Marketing Manager Tracy Ann Menzies.

According to Menzies, Air Jamaica has also expanded its New York route by re-introducing its once popular ‘Night Bird’ service for those jetsetters who like to squeeze the most out of the 24-hour workday.

“We have also introduced another flight to New York making it four daily flights,” she said.

“This New York addition is a prime flight because it is the reintroduction of our Night Bird service allowing our travellers to basically play or work all day, sleep on their way to their destination be it Jamaica or New York and wake up in the city.”

The Night Bird flights have passengers arriving in time for sunrise and coffee, with a midnight flight from Jamaica which gets into New York at 5:00am, and a 2:15 am flight from New York that arrives in Jamaica at approximately 5:00 am.

The airline has also increased its Orlando offerings to two flights per day every Tuesday and flights every other day except Sunday.

Ricardo Clarke

Ricardo Clarke’s hit single “Not Settling” off his album “Uprising” is not just going strong on the airwaves internationally but has also made some impact on a variety of charts.

The song was entered in the charts of “Our Stage” which recently partnered with AOL Music. It is fast becoming a respected place for the best new voices and artists. The reggae charts alone have an average of 200 new entries per month which makes it a very competitive market and difficult to leave an impact on the charts.

“Not settling” has been in the Top 10 for 3 months consecutively since being entered and has recently soared to the no 1 spot!
