The first annual Caribbean Urban Music Awards (CUMA) is scheduled to take place in Jamaica on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, St Mary. The Caribbean Urban Music Awards (CUMA), is produced by the organisers of Urban Music Awards (UMA), which is one of the biggest international awards ceremonies held in the USA, UK, France, and Germany and broadcasted worldwide to an audience of 14.5 million viewers annually.

The Urban Music Awards, which is staged by Jordan Kensington, head of Invincible Media Group, is on a path of expansion. It was staged in New York, United Kingdom, France and Germany. The Urban Music Awards was born out of the need to build a worldwide and independent awards ceremony to recognise the achievement of urban based artistes, producers, DJ’s, radio stations, and record labels. Hence this year’s staging in Jamaica is to honour Caribbean artistes.

Beenie Man, Collie Buddz, Sizzla and Spragga Benz have the most nominations with three each. Beenie Man, Spragga Benz and Collie Buddz are nominated in the Best International Artiste category. There are categories for Best Reggaeton Act, Best Soca Artiste and Best Calypso Act.

Radio Stations from the Bahamas (More 94FM), Trinidad (WEFM) 91.1FM), Barbados (Hott 93.5FM) and Jamaica’s IRIE FM are up for Best Reggae Radio Station.
