MR.VEGAS TEARS UP JAMROCK REGGAEFEST ‘08

An unprecedented high-leveled performance by top reggae act, Mr. Vegas, at the 11th Annual JAMROCK Reggae Fest held on Saturday, June 14; has catapulted his career to another level.

Mr. Vegas’ performance had the crowd at Manhattan‘s hip Hammerstein Ballroom roaring with excitement. His stint on stage exceeded all expectations. Chock-full of energy, the dapper Mr. Vegas, donned in a perfectly tailored Armani suit and crisp Ferragamo shoes, excited his audience with an unforgettable, kinetic 45-minute set.

Mr. Vegas, with humble grace came on stage with his background singer, Nicole Miller, and The New Kingston band. Mr. Vegas started his stint seated, as was the audience. During the early-sedated period of his performance he asked them, “Is this how you want me to perform? The question was responded to with a resounding, “No”, by all present. Mr. Vegas immediately dispensed with his seat and encouraged the swollen crowd to rise from their seats and there and then, the electrifying party began.

Mr. Vegas belted out a medley of songs in honor of Father’s Day. Then, Mr. Vegas unleashed an appealing montage of favorites from his extensive repertoire. His dancers, “The High Energy Dancers”, later joined him on stage. With the assistance of the dancers’ Mr. Vegas infused the crowd with dancehall smashes like, “Hot Wuk,” “Tek Weh Yuhself,” and “We Nuh Wan No Friend.”

All through his set, Mr. Vegas had the audience participating in his performance – while delivering his fiery hits. It was clear that Mr. Vegas left his mark on the once unmoved crowd, as his name kept reverberating through the crowd after his set.

An out of breath, David “Squeeze” Annakie, the event’s promoter with his voice filled with excitement said, “I have seen Mr. Vegas perform many times, but this is clearly one of his best performances ever.” Many patrons who attended the event thought that, Mr. Vegas stole the show. Mr. Vegas emanated a positive energy inside the Hammerstein Ballroom that set the pace for the other artistes who appeared after him.

The Jamrock Reggae Fest also featured performances by some of today’s most respected Reggae artistes the likes of, Beenie Man, Ky-Mani Marley, Third World, Assassin and Demarco to name a few. Many Reggae music fans and celebrities turned out to the high profile event despite horrific weather and flooded streets. As you read this piece be aware that New York is still raving about how Mr. Vegas jumpstarted the show – making it worth the while to have attended.
