Alva is ‘Stronger’

Upcoming singer Oliver “ALVA” Black, originally birth in Spanish Town, however grew up in the Sand Bay community of Clarendon while also spending time in St Ann, where he came to learn about the great Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Cocoa Tea, although he never thought of becoming a professional artiste.

A solitary visit to Scandinavia in Denmark approximately ten years ago, on an invitation from Sean Mike who is a Jamaican producer helped to change this fact. He recorded a number of tracks during his time with the producer, which inevitably opened up his desire to continue doing music; though none of those works were ever released, his confidence received a great boost.

Alva has gone on to record a number of tracks with varying producers, and it was just earlier this year in May that Show Love and May Not Be, two of his songs, were included on Garfield Cowan’s Florida based Nature’s Way label’s Reggae Hits Vol 1 compilation album.

Among his songs recorded and produced by Nature’s Way are Stronger and Hour Glass featuring Wayne Wonder. He also does recordings for Cut Stone Records and Unity Yawd Family Labels from the parish of St. Ann.

Produced by the Nature’s Way on the Sweet Personally rhythm, five years ago was Believe in me which can be identified as his breakthrough song, as it received rotation in clubs in New York and Jamaica while it also received a lot of airplay because the rhythm also had songs from superstar Reggae artistes, namely Wayne Wonder’s Let Me Love You Tonight and Wake Up by Jah Cure.

Alva is slated to release his first album, which will be titled Stronger.
