Closing date for entries in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission competitions

February 27,2009 is the closing date for entries in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s Miss Jamaica Festival Queen, Festival Song and National Children’s Gospel Competitions.

Continuing in the tradition reignited last year, through the staging of the Jamaica Festival Song Competition, the JCDC will be looking for a song that will form a musical backdrop for this year’s Independence celebrations. Persons interested in participating will be required to submit a demo on tape or CD in addition to the lyrics of the song.

Entrants in the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition are asked to attend  one of a series of auditions on the 18, 19, 21, 27 and 28 in the parishes of St. Mary, St. James, Manchester, Kingston & St. Catherine respectively. Children between the ages of 6-15 are eligible to participate in the National Children’s Gospel Competition.

Young women between the ages of 18- 25 are invited to participate in the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition. Participants will compete at the parish level before moving on to the national finals to vie for the opportunity to represent the island as a cultural ambassador.

Additional information & entry forms for all competitions are available online at www.jcdc.org.jm or at JCDC offices island-wide.
