DC World Reggae Festival 2018

On August 19, 2018 at the RFK Stadium in North East  Washington DC in the United States, the DC World Reggae Festival is slated to rock the capital state of the United States of America. Among the list of acts confirmed to perform include Chronixx, Shabba Ranks, Toots & The Maytals, Kes the Band, Raging Fyah, Rupee, Jah Works and Ras Slicks.

The Jamaican Embassy in the United States has endorsed the festival in an effort to celebrate Jamaica’s 56th anniversary of Independence, which took place on August 6, 2018. The festival will not only cater and focus on Jamaica culture though, as the festival’s executive producer Omar Stephenson pointed to the Caribbean and African diaspora as being the true target audience.

While the Jamaican ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks pointed to the fact that the festival will present a extraordinary opportunity to promote Jamaica, its music and overall culture.

“If you think about it, we are all ambassadors of our country – especially its culture – which has so influenced the world stage that people are constantly amazed at our geographic size,” she said.

The ambassador to Jamaica spoke about our creative culture, food, music and dances . “Our music – like reggae and dancehall, even our movie-making – has potential, which is in great demands.
