Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto, the first book ever penned by Vybz Kartel made a big splash when it was launched in Spanish Town this past July. However, Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto’s tagline, Incarcerated, but not silenceddoesn’t seem to be reigning true in Jamaica for Kartel as his book has been met by rejection throughout the island by book stores and the public at large, with airports being the primary source for sales.

As part of the Dub Champions Festival taking place in New York City, dub pioneer and mixing engineer Scientist will reunite tonight with the legendary Roots Radics Band to perform tunes from 1981’s crucial dub albumScientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires. If you love reggae but don’t recognize this album by its name, you’ve probably heard some of the songs from it at some point and not even realized it. Friday’s concert will be the first time the classic LO will be performed on the East Coast (having been performed only twice before in the last 30 years). If that’s not enough, they’re going to be joined onstage by special guest Johnny Osbourne. Musical support comes from our very own DJ Gravy, as well as Deadly Dragon and Subatomic Sound System.

TOMMY Lee, dancehall’s latest sensation, is the headline act for the 29th staging of Sting at the Jamworld Entertainment Centre in Portmore, St Catherine on Boxing Day.
The singjay, a member of the Vybz Kartel-led Portmore Empire, is currently enjoying in-demand status, and his Uncle Demon mixtape is a hot commodity.

The champion returns (Mmegmi Online)
Phemelo Moikabi, a Botswana dancehall artist affectionately known as Chantty Natural, has done it again.
He is promoting his new single, The Return of the Champion, which is featured on a compilation titled Tell The World: Life Goes On produced in South Africa by Sounds of Edutainment. The compilation is in honour of a fellow Rastafarian, Kaliman who passed on due to violent crime.
The star of Hey Gal fame also recently shot a high definition music video, produced by Art Productions Johannesburg, for the new single, which is on rotation on South African television stations, YouTube and Facebook.
