“GENDER FEVER 2009”

On Sunday June 7, 2009 Weekenz will come alive when Women’s Media Watch Jamaica presents “Gender Fever 2009”: a night of cultural edutainment, featuring a range of exciting performers whose works challenges traditional ideas on male/female relations. Tickets to the annual event cost $800 and the show begins at 5.00pm.

The event is a fundraiser for the outreach work of Women’s Media Watch Jamaica, a non profit organization that facilitates and encourages viable alternatives to gender conflict. The event has created an exciting opportunity for the performers to challenge creative boundaries of expression for the diverse audience that attends.

Now in its third staging, the popular event has drawn on the talents of a range of artistes in poetry, music and dance aiming to address power, sexuality, and politics as they relate to men and women. This year’s theme is Breaking the silence…healing the wounds” and the stellar lineup of performers includes Owen ‘Blakka’ Ellis, Janine Cunningham, Courtney John, Mel Cooke, Sistren’s Lana Finikin, Mbala, The Papiumba Big Band and many more.

Paula-Anne Porter Jones will also lend her talents to the event, sponsored in part by UNIFEM and Weekenz.

Gates open at 5PM and all are invited.
