Reggae Sumfest 2011 kicks off on July 17-23 at Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex, Montego Bay, Jamaica. With a lineup yet to be confirmed, the organizers are working to finalize adjustments to the venue to better facilitate patrons in case it rains. Reggae Sumfest was launched earlier than usual this year as the promoters wanted its followers to have enough time to prepare for the event.
Reggae Sumfest is arguable one of the biggest annual event on Jamaica’s entertainment calendar, Sumfest gathers cult of followers, in Montego Bay in mid July. Reggae Sumfest has always sought to promote the best of Jamaican music worldwide.
Reggae Sumfest Started in 1993 and was officially sponsored by Red Stripe highlighted by a number of Jamaican artistes including; Maxi Priest, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Freddie McGregor, Bounty Killer, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Lady Saw, and also features international artistes like Lionel Richie, `Usher, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Toni Braxton, to name a few.
As the name suggests Reggae Sumfest primarily features genre like Reggae, however genres like dance hall, lovers rock, dub poetry and samba reggae and espoused by American R&B and hip-hop .
Reggae Sumfest has continued to be an ambassador for the Island through its partnership with the Jamaica Tourist Board (J.T.B) and Air Jamaica.
