MAROON VILLAGE IN THE COCKPIT MOUNTAIN

Maroon Village a place of deep historic significance is hidden away high in the Cockpit Mountains of Jamaica’s lush interior.

Visitors can trek to Cockpit Country, the hide-away mountain homesite of the Maroons, runaway slaves who, in 1739, proudly defeated the British to gain their independence and then settled in this village.

The tour of Maroon Village is culturally, based and it educates visitors about the history, geography and culture of Jamaican people. You will first hand know how the Maroons lived.

There are Craft Stalls, Jamaican Food and Fruit Displays, a Traditional Hut with Art facts.

A visit to Maroon town Basic School (children age 3-6 years old).

They can accommodate up to 150 persons per tour.

The regular tour days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays, but special arrangements can be made any other day for groups of 15 and over.
