JCDC NAMES 2010 JAMAICA GOSPEL FINALISTSAfter a series of island-wide auditions and eliminations, the top ten finalists who will participate in this year’s Jamaica Gospel Song Competition, organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) in association with Grace Tropical Rhythms, were announced at the semi- final round held at the Rehoboth Gospel Assembly in Kingston last Thursday. They are: Ann Marie Laing from the parish of St. Elizabeth with the entry “I Can Trust God”; Tiffany Hall from the parish of Manchester with “Lost Without You” and Ancient Priest with “My Prayer” also from Manchester. From the parish of St. Catherine are Miriam Levy with “Arise”, Raylene Lindo with “I Just Can’t Give Up” and Murron Lindo with “God’s Promises Are True”. From St. Thomas is Omar Douglas with “I Feel like Running Away” and from the capital city of Kingston and St. Andrew is God Son with “I Need a Word”; Micah Ministry with “Anyway Praise” and Pure with “Father Please Hear”.The selected finalists will move on to preparing for the 2010 competition which includes being featured on a compilation album, music videos and an upcoming island-wide promotional tour. The Jamaica Gospel Competition was introduced by the JCDC in 1987, as the Commission pursued its vision of unearthing, developing and showcasing the best of Jamaican culture. The competition has since become an iconic presentation of indigenous gospel music in Jamaica and attracts over 200 artistes, producers and writers of original gospel music each year.
