Embattled Dancehall superstar, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer may be engaged in serious legal drama, but he does have something to smile about despite his troubles.
The internationally acclaimed deejay, who’s currently awaiting a hearing on murder-related charges, earned a Soul Train Award nomination for the Best Caribbean Performance. Kartel scored the nomination with his transcendent hit, Summer Time, which became a #1 hit on local and international Dancehall charts.
The Best Caribbean Performance category is a new addition to the Soul Train Awards; replacing the Reggae category in an effort to merge artiste of different genres within the region. The final Reggae award given out by the organizers of Soul Train was to veteran singjay, Gyptian who claimed victory with the popular single, Hold Yuh.
Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel’s former rival, Mavado also received a Soul Train Award nomination; competing against the “Worl’ Boss” for the Best Caribbean Performance honour. As a result of his crossover single, Delilah that also has made waves locally and overseas Mavado earned the nomination. Includes Barbadian superstar songstress, Rihanna both deejays will be competing in a tough category.

The Soul Train Awards will take place November 17th of this year in Atlanta and will air via BET and its sister network, Centric on November 27th.
